Found Treasure

This is one of a number of paintings I have done on found materials – this was a machine produced image on canvas from a charity shop. The price reflects this and the fact it is unframed.

I love maps in all their forms and these are collaged on here before I played with abstract paining and mono printing.

About the Artist: Jennifer Furmidge

Jenny is a full-time artist working out of her spare room studio exploring her style with the criti-cats. The work is predominantly abstract or abstracted, sometimes combined with figures or flowers. She works mainly in acrylic with mixed media and collage and mono printing. She likes to work on found material and give it a new life. In addition, Jenny is rediscovering painting from life, including still life and plein air. Although frequently, she seeks out abstract compositions in the landscape or on the tabletop. Her aim is to work loosely and bring emotion to each piece and interest through expressive marks, close-up details, and shapes drawn from everyday life. She admires Gwen John, Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebauld, Tracey Emin and many others. Jenny’s process is to gather ideas from out in the world through abstract photography and quick sketches and then crop, collage and respond in the studio. Pieces can go through multiple iterations. Her current favourite quote is from Gwen John - “Paint the atmosphere and it’s compliment”
