Jenny is a full-time artist working out of her spare room studio exploring her style with the criti-cats.
The work is predominantly abstract or abstracted, sometimes combined with figures or flowers. She works mainly in acrylic with mixed media and collage and mono printing. She likes to work on found material and give it a new life.
In addition, Jenny is rediscovering painting from life, including still life and plein air. Although frequently, she seeks out abstract compositions in the landscape or on the tabletop.
Her aim is to work loosely and bring emotion to each piece and interest through expressive marks, close-up details, and shapes drawn from everyday life.
She admires Gwen John, Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebauld, Tracey Emin and many others.
Jenny’s process is to gather ideas from out in the world through abstract photography and quick sketches and then crop, collage and respond in the studio. Pieces can go through multiple iterations.
Her current favourite quote is from Gwen John - “Paint the atmosphere and it’s compliment”
